Math
The students have been exploring addition through games such as Roll & Record and 5–in-a-Row. We have also started solving addition story problems within 20. When solving story problems, the students are asked to visualize and retell what is happening in the story.
Literacy
The students have been working hard writing stories about what they can do all by themselves and how they help. We seem to have lots of helpful, independent first graders!
During Readers’ Workshop, the students have been exploring what good readers do. We discovered that good readers:
-Use pictures to solve words.
-Stretch out the sounds.
-Reread to see if a word makes sense.
-Chunk words into parts you already know.
Upcoming dates:
Friday, October 9, 2015 – No school
Monday, October 12, 2015 – No school
Tuesday, October 20, 2015 – School Picture Day
*Conferences are also taking place during the month of October, be sure to sign up!
