Wow, it's already the end of September. We've had a busy first few weeks of first grade. Check out some of the learning that's been happening....
Literacy
We're refreshing our brains on the sounds letters make and learning the first grade No Excuse words. Ask your child to sing the "Who Let the Letters Out" song and to show you the movements that go with each letter/sound. We've also been using our bodies to sky write the letters -- skywriting is so much fun. Practice spelling words via skywriting!
No Excuse Words - a, and, are, as, at, be, for, go, he, his, I, in, is, it, me, of, on, see, that, the, they, to, you, was, with
Math
We've been practicing counting forwards and backwards from and to a given number with a game called Start with, Get to. Practice this game with your child at home: Start with a given number between 1-100 and ask your child to get to a number between 1-100. Ask, are we counting backwards or forwards? The students love it!
Academic Open House
Looking forward to seeing all of you at our Academic Open House on Tuesday, September 27 from 6:00-7:00. First grade will meet in Ms. Langevin's room!
Check back weekly for first grade updates and things to practice at home! :)
