Learning about families...
We are kicking off our Project Based Learning unit about families. Students will be asked to gather information about their families and cultural background. They will explore cultures around the world and think about what makes their family unique.
We will be asking for your participation along the way. Your child will need your help to gather information about family names, countries your family has been to as well as activities and celebrations you share. We appreciate your time and support.
Family Bags
Please think about what makes your family special. Find at least five items that you could fit in your bag (brown bag sent home Friday) that will show us about your family. Please make sure that your items are unbreakable, non-perishable and that they can be left at school for up to one week. Our goal is to learn how all families are special and unique.
For example, does your family like to play games together? You could bring in a card or game piece to show us. Does your family go for bike rides? Bring in a picture of a bike. Does your family have a favorite holiday that you celebrate? Bring in something that shows what that holiday is. You can also decorate your bag with drawings of your family members.
We can’t wait for you to share your bag with us!
Math
The students have been learning about surveys and how they are used to collect data. The students have been creating surveys, collecting data, and reviewing the data collected. Ask your child to share about some of the surveys created in class.
